I was thinking that if I were to take a trip to Japan, it would be worth taking avantage of the currency rate and save 30% or more.

There is no best way to make profit in foreign exchange unless you can anticipate the future of foreign exchange rate. But no one can anticipate foreign exchange rate.
If you exchange at exchange buro, the rate will be MUCH worse than forex trading. In most cases, you only make loss, not profit.

I am not sure about exchange rate, but i use to help me get things from Japan in USD , once they send me i sold it on ebay!
Also Japan to door help me sell my items into Yahoo Japan Auction, once its sold, they give me in USD through Paypal.
Their exchange rate is ok, but since i pay in USD and received in USD, my gain is much simple than exchange rate i think! Cause the item i get may be much cheaper due to exchange rate, or when i sell through them i gain more do to exchange rate. AND i never have to go to Japan!! (although i really want to) N_N

Forex is the best. You can earn interest per day if US$ rises in the future.
Cash has no advantege. It doesn’t bring any interest and some fee are charged in the rate.
