And what about trade with other EU countries? Would it just mean that trade was easier as there would be no exchange rate?

It wouldnt make any difference as the exchange rates would be pegged one it was announced they would join.
However, the UK are highly unlikley to join any time soon, as the pound is so weak pegging rates now would devalue british goods.
